Quarz veins form when hot pressurized water opens cracks in a granite. The water flowing through the fractures can produce giant metal resources or allow extraction of geothermal energy from rocks at depth (image: copper-gold ore, Sar Cheshmeh mine, Iran; image width: 3 cm).
Our group studies the geological processes leading to the formation of essential mineral resources. Our process models are also used for exploring deep geothermal energy as an alternative for electricity generation.
