Structural Geology and Tectonics
Layers of bright and dark sediments that have been consolidated under high temperature and pressure and that have been penetrated by hot, melted rock (dyke). Sediments and dyke were later deformed; the sediments were mainly folded, the dyke was stretched and finally separated into isolated fragments.
We investigate geological processes that operate under enormous forces. Deformation structures like folds, faults and textures in minerals reveal information about the formation of the lithosphere (outer, solid sphere of the Earth).
